A crime prevention method

Grannsamverkan is a crime prevention method and initiative administered and funded by the network Samverkan mot brott (SAMBO). SAMBO consists of SSF Stöldskyddsföreningen, the Police, the Swedish National Council for Crime Prevention (BRÅ), the Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions (SKR), Trygg Hansa, Folksam, If, Länsförsäkringar, Dina Försäkringar, the Swedish Homeowners Association, the Tenants’ Association, the Swedish Crime Victim Support Association (BOJ), and Riksbyggen. The initiative operates locally between the police and residents in neighbourhoods.

Since 2015, SSF Stöldskyddsföreningen has been responsible for Grannsamverkan, handling administration, materials, marketing, and information for local actors.

The goal: reduced crime

Grannsamverkan works to make residential areas less attractive for criminal activity by increasing residents' awareness and providing knowledge about self-protection. The goal is to reduce crime and improve safety by enhancing security and raising the quality of life in neighbourhoods through social networks and collaboration between residents and the police.

An app for iOS and Android

Esatto has been entrusted with developing a new app for Grannsamverkan, available for both iOS and Android, aimed at facilitating communication between neighbours, informing about local events, sharing information and tips, and fostering a sense of community. It was also crucial that the app could provide users with information about current crime incidents to raise awareness and engagement. Another important feature was enabling secure login via BankID and establishing a platform for direct communication between the police and residents in Grannsamverkan areas.

Updated technology and greater user focus

One of the challenges was that the existing Grannsamverkan app was outdated, with technical issues that did not meet users’ needs. These problems affected the app’s performance, leading users to turn to competitors and other communication methods, which in turn impacted trust in Grannsamverkan. Additionally, new regulations from BankID in the spring of 2024 required an updated BankID integration to comply with the latest directives.

Simplicity in focus

The new app has been designed with a focus on simplicity and user-friendliness to attract and retain users. We have also placed significant emphasis on accessibility to include a broader range of users. By utilising the latest technology and implementing regular updates, we ensure the app’s stability and reliability. A new BankID integration has been developed to meet the latest directives and ensure smooth user authentication. By highlighting Grannsamverkan’s broader role in crime prevention, the app is positioned to communicate the benefits of working with neighbours to enhance safety in residential areas.

Continuous development

The new version of the Grannsamverkan app was launched in May 2024. A key part of the initial launch was to gather feedback from users to adapt and improve the service based on actual user needs and requests. We continue to develop the service regularly now and in the coming years to ensure it remains effective and tailored to the needs of its members.
