AI doesn't care about inflation

The world around us is more turbulent than ever, and the future is arriving at record speed. We have a war in Europe, we're dealing with the aftermath of a pandemic, and climate change is constantly hitting us where it hurts. And to top it all off – tricky inflation, a recession, and grim headlines in the business press. All of this likely occupies a significant portion of your thoughts. That said, our strongest advice right now is to let go of the things you can’t control and focus more on what you can influence. Specifically, we urge you to start experimenting with AI. Now.

AI will impact our lives more than inflation and recession

In recent months, the tech scene has been buzzing with news about generative AI in general and ChatGPT in particular. ChatGPT is an AI-driven chatbot created by OpenAI. It uses a variant of an AI model called GPT (Generative Pretrained Transformer), which is specialised in generating text. This AI has been trained on an enormous amount of text from the internet to understand and generate human language. At least, that’s what ChatGPT itself says when asked.

It may seem like an exciting development, but why all the fuss? Is this just another classic hype? A closer look at the scene reveals, for example:

  • that ChatGPT is just one of about 50 other AI-based language models from some of the world’s largest tech players. We have barely scratched the surface of this technology’s potential.
  • that most of the world’s tech capital is being invested in generative AI in 2023 – 35 percent of Europe’s tech capital is going into generative AI. That’s more than we ever bet on mobile phones.
  • that forecasts from the world’s most prestigious thinkers indicate that AI will become the greatest productivity booster of any technology ever.
At Esatto, we don’t believe this is just hype. We’ve started adapting and reshaping our operations because we believe we are on the verge of a massive technological shift that will affect all aspects of our lives. We believe AI will find its way into every moment of life, to increase productivity and improve our lives.

That’s why our advice is to experiment with AI – despite everything else going on in the world right now. We believe it’s our job, and yours, to figure out how AI can become valuable for you, your family, your business, our society, and our planet. In short: Whatever you think is important, AI will be a part of it.

A bold experiment that generates knowledge

When major technological shifts occur, gathering knowledge is often more important than knowing exactly how to use the technology – and understanding how AI can become valuable for you is the goal right now.

An experiment shows your organisation and your market that you are taking these changes seriously. Additionally, it allows you to practice creating the internal conditions necessary to succeed with challenging changes. Budgets need to be secured. Leaders are required. Goals need to be set. Ethics and risks need to be managed. People with AI expertise must be brought into the work. You get the picture. It will be messy. But oh, so important.

Regardless of the outcome of the experiment, our advice is to expand it into a real product or service in 2024 – and there should be a clear budget allocation for 2024 in the autumn's challenging Excel sheet that’s passed around among your managers.

Furthermore, we suggest that in 2025 you aim for AI to both increase productivity in your core business and be used to create something entirely new.

In short: You will need to be bold enough to plant your flag ambitiously in a landscape you know nothing about. You will need to be persistent and insistent internally to succeed.

We are, of course, here to help. Our advice, regardless, is to reach out to a serious digital agency or a similar team that understands business, user experiences, and technology equally well. Schedule a coffee meeting and listen to their thoughts on the paths forward. Plan something smart together and go for it.

It’s often said that cooler heads will prevail” because it's usually true. This time, however, it won’t be – because AI doesn’t care about inflation.
